Getting your website highly placed in search engine results for given search terms is the purpose of search engine optimisation (commonly called SEO). SEO can mean the difference between a small, barely profitable or visible website, and web page success.

Being listed on the first page of a search engine’s results can mean a huge increase in click-through rates and income.

SEO is divided into 2 parts – internal and external. Each is equally important in determining how highly your website is ranked in search results.

Internal SEO

External SEO

External SEO is how important a search engine thinks your site is, and is dependant on the opinion of other websites on the internet.

This has another very important benefit, as it becomes your website promotion or marketing, to increase website traffic.

WEBSITE TRAFFIC

As offline businesses depend on location to succeed, so online businesses depend on traffic. If no-one knows your site exists, no-one will visit.

Contrary to offline marketing, online marketing can be done for free.  Each time a website places a link to your site on theirs, you have the potential for increased traffic to your site. A successful website marketing strategy uses many different resources to increase awareness of your site, to give it access to different sorts of markets/visitors.

The more traffic, the more money you can make. Selling is a numbers game after all.

One of the best ways to get free web site marketing is to get your web site’s link, with title and description, placed on other websites. For them to do this, there needs to be a reason. This usually means enhancing the other web site in some way beneficial to them. The ‘trick’ to free web site marketing is to give them a reason to list your site.
